Background of the Study

Women’s participation in politics has been a topic of global concern, with significant advocacy efforts directed towards achieving gender equity in political representation. In Nigeria, women’s organizations have played an instrumental role in advocating for greater political involvement and representation of women at various levels of government (Ahmed & Suleiman, 2024). Zaria Local Government in Kaduna State has seen the emergence of several women’s organizations working to address the gender gap in political participation, advocating for policy reforms, increased awareness, and improved access to political platforms for women (Bello & Umar, 2023). Despite these efforts, women remain underrepresented in political leadership roles, and gender inequality continues to persist in the political sphere. This study evaluates the role of women’s organizations in Zaria in advocating for gender equity in politics, examining their strategies, challenges, and impacts on political change.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Women’s organizations in Zaria Local Government have been at the forefront of advocating for gender equity in politics, yet the level of women’s participation in political leadership remains disproportionately low. Despite the advocacy efforts, women continue to face systemic barriers such as cultural biases, limited access to resources, and a lack of political will to implement gender-sensitive policies (Abdullahi & Ibrahim, 2024). This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of these organizations in promoting gender equity, focusing on their role in challenging societal norms and influencing political structures that limit women’s political participation in Zaria.
